Showing With BUET
Shows are held at various locations throughout both the fall and spring semesters. Horses and equipment are provided. In intercollegiate competition, riders are randomly assigned their mounts using a draw system. This ensures that riders are not discriminated against because of their riding experience and tests their ability to adapt to unfamiliar horses.
Riders who are interested in showing will be placed in the appropriate class based on their level of riding and coach Amie's suggestions. The IHSA offers 8 levels of Hunt Seat riding, from walk-trot through open, both on the flat and over fences, and 6 levels of Western riding, from beginner horsemanship through open reining. When riders have accumulated 36 points, they class up to the next level and qualify to compete at Regionals in the spring.
We encourage everyone to come to shows! Whether you wish to compete or not, it's a rewarding, if long, day and a great way to bond as a team.
